Applied Science

Department of Applied Sciences & Humanities

In the field of engineering, Applied Science plays an indispensable role in building a strong foundation for aspiring engineers. It equips students with essential knowledge and analytical skills through core subjects such as Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry, and Engineering Mathematics. These subjects form the backbone upon which the future of engineers is shaped.

The Department comprises Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects for all first-year B.Tech. students. Both theoretical and practical classes are conducted to ensure comprehensive learning.

Physics Laboratory

As per the BPUT syllabus, the following experiments are conducted:

1. Determination of acceleration due to gravity using Bar Pendulum / Kater’s Pendulum

2. Determination of surface tension of water using Capillary Rise Method

3. Verification of laws of transverse vibration using a Sonometer

4. Study of V-I characteristics of PN Junction Diode

5. Study of V-I characteristics of BJT

6. Determination of Young’s Modulus using Searle’s Apparatus

7. Determination of Rigidity Modulus using Torsion Apparatus

8. Determination of thermal conductivity of a bad conductor using Lee’s Disc Method

9. Determination of wavelength of monochromatic light using Newton’s Rings

10. Determination of grating element using a plane transmission grating

11. Study of RC Circuit

Chemistry Laboratory

The Chemistry Laboratory is well-equipped to provide practical exposure aligned with the prescribed syllabus, enabling students to understand chemical principles and their engineering applications.

Role of English for Engineers

English serves as a global language and a gateway to knowledge and opportunities worldwide. A strong command of English is essential, as a significant portion of technical and academic resources is available in this language. In today’s globalized era, proficiency in English enhances communication, learning, and career prospects.

All first-year B.Tech. students undergo both theory and practical (lab) sessions in English.

Orell Digital Language Lab

The Institute provides advanced training through the Orell Digital Language Lab to improve students’ overall personality and communication abilities. The lab focuses on:

1. Communication Skills

2. Listening Skills

3. Personality Development

4. Interview Skills

5. Group Discussion (GD)

6. Soft Skills Training

7. Pre-Placement Training
